Korean
American Coalition - Washington DC Chapter (KAC-DC)
in conjunction with Korean-American Association of
Washington Metropolitan Area (KAAW) will be holding
a forum on the state of Korean-American population
in regards to the 2000 census. Dr. Eui-Young Yu will
illustrate the common and differing perspectives on
growth and patterns of development of the Washington,
DC area Korean-American population.
Eui-Young
Yu (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania, 1969), Professor
of Sociology at California State University, Los Angeles.
He holds the position of Directorship of the Center
for Korean American and Korean Studies (CKAKS) at
the university, which he established in 1978. His
academic specialty is demography, Korean American
studies, and urban sociology. He was awarded Outstanding
Professor of University in 1985.
Since
December 2000, Dr. Yu has been directing the Korean
American Coalition - Census Information Center (KAC-CIC)
in Los Angeles. KAC-CIC is one of the 58 CIC's designated
by the U.S. Bureau of the Census in order to disseminate
census products to underserved communities in the
United States. He has been analyzing and disseminating
2000 census products to Korean media, community organizations
and concerned individuals. His analyses are available
for on the Cal State LA web site: www.calstatela.edu/centers/ckaks/.
Dr. Yu also served as an officer or board member of
various community organizations.
Dr.
Yu's list of publications includes 100 Year History
of Korean Immigration to America (editorial supervisor
- Los Angeles: Korean American United Foundation,
2002), East to America: Korean American Life Stories
(coauthored with Elaine H. Kim - New York: The New
Press, 1996), and Serving the Community: Seventy Year
History of Dorim Presbyterian Church (Seoul: The Presbyterian
Church of Korea, 1997). Additionally he has authored
over 100 articles and books on Korean and Korean American
studies.
