KAC-DC Seeks 2005 Executive Committee Members

As we near the wrap up of the year 2004 and start the engine for 2005 - Have you been asking yourself what you can do differently in the New Year?

Are you interested in the Korean American community affairs? Are you looking for an opportunity to serve the community? Are you interested in organizing programs to mobilize, educate and empower the Korean American community?

Well, KAC-DC has an opportunity for YOU! We are seeking volunteers to serve on the following 2005 KAC-DC Officer positions (See below for position descriptions):

  • VP for Communications
  • VP for External Affairs
  • VP for Programs
  • VP for Resource Development
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

KAC-DC Officers

The Officers of KAC-DC are elected by the Board. A Board of Director of KAC-DC may hold any Officer position, but an Officer need not be a Board of Director.

The Executive Committee will be composed of the following nine (9) individuals:

Chair (or Vice Chair in the absence of the Chair)
President
Executive Vice President
VP for Communications
VP for External Affairs
VP for Programs
VP for Resource Development
Secretary
Treasurer

The President will serve as chair of the Executive Committee, and in the absence of the President, the Executive Vice President will preside as chair.

President:
  The President is the chief executive officer of the Board`, and supervises and controls the administrative affairs of KAC-DC. The President is also the organization's primary spokesperson, and represents KAC-DC in public in accordance with such policies, resolutions, and directives as the Board may adopt from time to time.

Executive VP:
  In the absence of the President, the Executive VP will be empowered to all duties of the President, and when so acting, shall have all the powers of, and be subject to, all the restrictions of the office of the President. The Executive VP is also responsible for all membership services and products, including recruitment of new members, and servicing membership renewals.

VP for Communications:
  Vice President for Communications will be KAC-DC's primary communications director, responsible for originating and disseminating KAC-DC news, announcements, and other information to its members, the press, and the public at large through electronic, written, or any other publication methods. The Vice President for Communications also will oversee the maintenance of KAC-DC's Internet website and electronic membership distribution lists.

VP for External Affairs:
  Vice President for External Affairs will be KAC-DC's primary liaison with local, state, and federal governmental entities on public policy matters that may impact the Korean American community. The Vice President for External Affairs will also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with other community-based organizations in the Greater Washington area to create joint projects and to provide coalition-building efforts in the interests of the Korean-American community.

VP for Programs:
  Vice President for Programs will be KAC-DC's primary director of services, programs, and events that cater to the needs of both KAC-DC members and the Korean American community at large. The Vice President for Programs will also oversee the various committees and task forces created to implement ongoing programs, such as voter registration drives, citizenship application assistance workshops, college student internships, and high school mentoring programs.

VP for Resource Development:
  Vice President for Resource Development will be KAC-DC's primary fundraising coordinator, responsible for setting an annual fundraising target and creating activities and timeline to reach the goals. The Vice President for Resource Development will also develop new, and maintain existing relationships with donors and grant-makers who may be interested in supporting the activities of KAC-DC and the Korean American community at large.

Secretary:
  The Secretary will give notice of all KAC-DC's Board meetings and any other events to every Directors and to others required by these Bylaws. The Secretary will also be responsible for recording the minutes of all Board and Executive Committee meetings, and will distribute them within two (2) weeks of the meeting for review and approval of the Directors and Executive Committee members. The Secretary will keep these meeting minutes and all other books, reports, statements, and other records of KAC-DC in a secure location in an organized fashion, as determined by the Board. The Secretary will also serve as the general historian for the Organization.

Treasurer:
  The Treasurer will have the custody of the corporate funds and other valuable effects, keep all full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements in books belonging to KAC-DC, and deposit all monies and other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the Organization in such depositories as may be designated by the Board. The Treasurer will make financial reports at every Board meeting or as otherwise requested by any Director. Working with the Board, the Treasurer will also develop and implement a process for any Director or Officer to seek timely reimbursement from the Organization for expenses that the Director of Officer incurred personally on behalf of the Organization.
